My Ranger is a 2000 model with the 2.5L and 5 speed transmission with 146,000 on the odometer. The other night I was headed to work, cruising along at a steady 65 when the CEL came on. Dropped by my local O'Reilly Auto Parts on the way home to and found both P0401 and P0455 codes were thrown.
Looking at the Tech section, the 401 has to do with the EGR system. Can anyone tell me where the EGR valve is on the 2.5L. I also understand the 455 code has to do with the EVAP system. Can/are these systems related? Can anyone give me some hints/tips to troubleshoot the EVAP system.
I also have an aftermarket locking gas cap installed. Been on there since last year when gas prices were sky high. It's also been 120 miles since the last fuel up.
My 01 4.0 has had the 401 code twice in the last 8 months, both times its been the pressure feedback switch, cheap easy fix, manual says the evap 455 code is a leak so I would find the canister and check all the lines, as far as I can tell the egr and evap systems are separate.
I don't know a lot about this but I will tell you the few things i do know. the p0455 is for a large leak in the evap system. aka "the gas cap" code. The egr valve rarely fails it can get dirty and you should clean it out. You could have a cracked or disconnected hose. the dpfe is what usually fails in the EGR system

Good to know that 455 is usually the gas cap...I'll have to remember that!
