I just bought my first Ford truck, a 2010 F250 xl ext cab 4x4 6.8 V10. It has a couple of issues including the strong smell of gas coming thru the AC system at startup. I also get a code p0455 for large EVAP system leak. I don't smell fuel outside the truck or much under the hood while running. The smell disapates if I roll the windows down for a few seconds, so the vapors are not constantly generated as far as I can tell.
So the odor is only at startup
It is strongest thru the AC system(unless set to recirc)
The truck sometimes doesn't start on the fist try(different issue), I think this increases the fuel vapors significantly.
I don't know where the evap system runs under the hood or were the fresh air intake is.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Everything i I have searched on the site has come back with smells outside the truck or strongly under the hood.

Just because you haven't found one doesn't mean there isn't one. Just sayin'...
The EVAP system under the hood consist of the canister purge valve on the firewall (look for the GREEN cap) a vacuum line from it to the intake, and another line from the purge valve back to the fuel tank. If that line at or near the valve or the valve is leaking, then you *might* get fuel vapors accumulating under the hood and you would probably get a P0455 error.
I do get a p0455 and sometimes the vehicle has a hard time starting. When it takes longer than normal to start the smell of fuel is stronger the longer it takes. I'll check near the valve. I'm wondering if it's haveing a hard time starting because of a leak letting to much air into the manifold via the EVAP then when it starts some of that fuel fumes getting pushed backwards thru the leak briefly. The fuel smell is brief but strong.
