My check engine light came on so I checked it and it is turns out that it might be a bad cat. I am figuring that it is because I have had a couple of the cylinders misfiring that took me a while to fix. If memory serves me right I think it might be one of them that is on the passengers side. Money is pretty tight right now but need to get it fixed because it needs to be inspected this month. Does anyone know where I can get the least expensive direct connect cat. Or if someone could tell me how to figure out exactly which cat it is so that I can just switch that one. But I am figuring that replacing the whole thing might be the way to go because if one of them went the other one is probably not to far behind. Would pulling one off from a selvage yard be a bad idea? Any help would be great. Thanks for you time.
What were the actual codes that the CEL threw? Downstream O2 sensor error?
I guess I didn't realize that there was as sensor in the cat......
I can't remember the exact code, I'll have to check when I get home. When I did get the code when I looked it up it said that a bad cat is likely the problem. Like I said I'll rerun the code tonight and let you all know.
Finally got around to read the code. It is coming up as PO430. When I looked it up is says something about cat mostly bad and with having a couple of cylinder miss firing for a while do to bad coils I am figure that it must be the cat.
It is illegal for licensed salvage yards to sell used cats.
The price for the ones on ebay include a $25.00 core charge and I don't think you can do better anywhere.
They won't ship to Cal 'cause they don't like 'em and the CARB is too picky.
I'm thinking that I am going to do the driver side direct fit unit. The only type of welder that I have access to is an arc welder and I was told that you need a mig welder to do it. The arc welder is to hot. Looking online I think the cheapest I can find is around $280 with free shipping. Is that a good price? Anyone know of one cheaper?
