PCM-ICP sensor question

I had my F-350 diagnosed at my local Ford dealership and they said that my PCM was bad and maybe my ICP sensor as well. The truck is only running 725lbs of oil pressure to the injectors. The code that it is giving is a P1212. The tech at the dealership said that he would change the PCM first because he tried to bypass the ICP sensor and make the PCM change the pressure amount and it wouldn't, so he said that the VREF circuit was bad. He also said that the ICP may also be damaged.

I took the advice from some of you on the forum here and found a PCM from a 1997 with a E40D. The family code is the same DPC-202 and the flash on the PCM is TDE1. I installed it and it still has the problem so I quickly took it out and put the old one back in. If the ICP sensor took out the old one then I don't want it to take out the new one.

My question is, Should the ICP sensor that I purchase be for my 1995 or should it be the one for the 1997? I have found many on ebay, but it seems that the 94-95 powerstrokes were different, and much more expensive.

What would be your suggestions? Thanks in advance for any advice.

I dont know if it makes a difference or not but if I was doing the mod I would use the same sensor yr as the pcm that you are planning on running in the truck

What did your test results show on the thread above on the icp?

Did you unplug the icp and see if the pressure changed?
Rick asked you to check the fuel pressure at the schrader valve at teh fuel bowl. What was that supply pressure?

This pic is pointing to the fuel restriction sensor but under the sensor is where the fuel pressure can be tested.

The Ford dealership told me what the pressure was. They tried and unplugged the icp and no change in pressure. They also tried running some wires straight to the pcm using a breakout plug and giving it a signal to see if the pressure would change and they said it wouldn't. So, without a new pcm, they couldn't test the icp to see if it was bad. I installed the new pcm and the truck still sets the code. So I'm just assuming that the ICP is bad as well. When I ran the checks on the icp is was way off from what it said to look for. I am going out and checking it again and will report back. Thanks for the help.

Has the wiring to the ICP been repaired yet ?...

The 725 is what is expected if the ICP was unplugged .. May want to recheck the wiring

Pin 90 looks to be ref voltage to all sensors

The ford dealership actually repaird the wire. They also ran a seperate wire from the ICP straight to the PCM to bypass the harness and no change. If the 97 ICP will fit my 95 and run ok with the new pcm I think I will just go that route.

Do you guys think it will work ok?

I thought that maybe since I had a PCM from a 97 model, that I may be able to use the one for the 96 and above. Unless, of course, it is physically different. Do you think that is reasonable or not?

It was a pin metal change.
I would test all the ground inputs to the pcm.
Be shure that the ipr wiring is good. (12v and the pcm ground control)

I have mentioned in other threads, but I forgot in this one. I know what happened to the PCM and the ICP sensor. I shorted them switching between resistors trying out the 10K mod. Thats why I haven't looked anywhere else. Thanks.

If anyone can tell me if the 96-03 sensor will work in my 95 I would greatly appreciate it.

Bill says the difference is in the material used in the pins , the plug may be different from 95-96 , may need to change the male plug to use it . other wise , it is the same sensor ..

If you test for voltage on the IPR ,be very careful , I shorted to ground & my IDM took a powder ,testing mine. one wire will have 12 V the other is ground sent by the PCM key on..
