CEL and no idea

I have a 1995 F350 dually auto 7.3(of course). I have a Ceck Enging light on. I took apart the fuel pressure regulator last week and cleaned it and replaced the fuel filter.

The truck runs great, but it has a check engine light(which it had before I cleaned the regulator) and it is really sucking down the fuel. I'm only getting around 7-8 miles per gallon.

I called the Ford dealership this morning to see how much they would charge me to scan it and tell me what the code was and they want $80.00 to do a complete computer diagnostics on the truck. I ask if they could just read the code for less money and they said NO.

I have tried several scanners at the local parts houses. 3 were Actrons and one was a Innova or something like that. The Innova actually displayed that the Check Engine Light was on, but said it had no codes.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I could order a scanner, but funds just don't allow it for now. Thanks in advance.

Is your truck stock? You could be loosing some turbo boost, but that is usually associated with loss of power. Is your truck smoking? The thing is, if that light is on, there is a code, or some codes stored, telling it to come on. You might try unhooking the batteries for about a half an hour and see if that makes the codes go away?

No smoke, Stock other than the fpr mod, fuel pressure is 65 psi. The truck runs fine other than the light on and the poor fuel mileage. No lose of power, not noticable anyway....

I have had a BIG DROP in fuel milage recently after I changed my CPS. I have asked around and I have heard it all....believe me. My CEL is burnt out!, LOL anyway someone told me to switch filling stations. Apparently they use use a heavier mix of something during the winter, I don't know if that will trigger a CEL or not (I believe not). It is a stab in the dark (w/o a code reader) but maybe try to switch filling stations.

LOL, I needed a laugh! Thanks my Brother Rick! (I think you are a cyber bully or a weird cyber stalker!....Just kidding ya Rick)...thanks for keeping me in check...life is good!, LOL!
OT, I said I needed a laugh b/c I saw a Kris Kristoferson video earlier called 8th of November and it stuck a cord with me. I saw Kris with John Prine when I got back from Iraq in late 04 and he was a FUGGEN A$$HOWL, IMO. but that song really strikes a note in me I can't describe....They say it is PTSD but I don't know....anyway thanks for the laugh Brother!

I forgot to tell you and your son thanks for your service! you too! b/c I never saw how much hell my Mom went through worrying about me unil I got hit. I am sorry to put her through that and I commend you for the endurance of your worrying too! But man it realy is fun over there! Operating by the seat of your pants, lol...I wouldn't trade that feeling for nothing!...Thanks Brother!
