forced induction for 3.0
If you upgrade the internals with a Morena kit (lots money) you can up that boost up to 18-20 psi, now you are talking 700 hp to the wheels. And the best part is, in your day to day driving, you still have a fuel efficient V6.
The trick is first, you need to lower the compression of the motor. It is about 9:1, you need to get that down to 7:1. You can do that with either a different crank or shorter rods, or by using an extra thick copper head gasket and stronger head studs. Then you add a fuel management unit (increases fuel rail pressure under boost), larger injectors, reflash the computer with a new tune, and add a wideband sensor hooked to a gauge. You also need the supercharger (or turbo), a waste gate, a blow off valve or diverter valve, and an intercooler, plus any piping to hook it all up. This will probably run you at least $2000. But it will smoke just about any other light truck out there. You already have some of what you need (the tuner) so that will take about $500 off that. You can implement some of this stuff in stages. So no need to come up with a big chunk of change up front.
If you skip some of this stuff you could cause engine damage, so you have to take it slow, and avoid using boost till you know the engine can take it and the tuning is set up properly.
These things can be a lot of fun to do the V8 swaps on, I have the busted knuckles to prove it. I think the guy a James Duff ent. and a couple of the guys at Summit know me by first name.
