forced induction for 3.0
Yes i have a 2003 Edge with 99000 miles on it and i was wondering if anybody made any kind of forced induction system for this truck. It has a 3.0 with throttle body spacer, fipk 2 k&n cold air, diablo predator tuner, upgraded plugs and wires magnaflow 2 1/2" dual exhaust 4.10 rear end and i was wanting to get more power without using no2. I know whipple used to make a supercharger but they no longer do. Anything out there i dont know about?

I recommend you don't but look here if you "have" to: Ranger Power Sports Forum - Powered by vBulletin

ohh really what would you do. I guarantee my ranger will eat your rangers lunch. I just need more without doing a complete engine swap.:-X22

I just need my Ranger to get me from point A to point B without all the hooohaaaah.
It's a tool not a toy. |
oh ya you sure do have some nice wheels and different stuff on your truck to make me think you dont think of it as a tool.

For less money, you could probably do a 302 swap and have REAL performance!
I have done 5 first gen. Ranger 302/351W swaps..........the last one, including the 5.0 from a 84 Mustang GT came in at less than $600 and 4 salvage yard trips..........just sayin' |
i would love to do a 5.0 swap but i have no idea where to start and really what i need. If you have anymore info on that please let me know. That is really what i would like to do.

Since yours is OBDII and EFI to start with, you probably do not want to go old school carburetor and have to gut the truck of its ECM and harness..........Start looking for a later model 5.0 Mustang engine and T-5 man. trans for a donor.......after that its just a matter of parts collecting to support the swap, since I dont like computerized EFI stuff all my experience is with first gen. 83 thru 85 carbed trucks.......I am certain there are plenty of folks who have done the V8 swap in later mod EFI trucks that can help.

For even less money you could not break that good 2003 Ford Edge and leave it alone.
Please! |

Please! Why do you have to be an A-hole on almost every thread you reply to? People come here for information and solid advice and typically ask the questions they do because they don't already know the answer and are looking for someone with prior experience or the knowledge to give them a good answer. Like the guy with the boat towing questions- He didn't say, "I want to tow a bigger boat. Can someone talk to me like I'm stupid and not help me out at all?" Crap man. You must be one big SOB because where I'm from talking to people like that every day would get the snot beat out of you on a regular basis.

Would I put one of my "hand built" creations made up from salvage yard/summit racing parts up against a late model FOMOCO product in 24/7/365, turn key and go competitions?
No...............(not unless I am there to provide "tech support"!) OP sounds like a young kid that might be better served by a dead reliable rig, not a hot rod milking his bank account away. I have 6 more rigs I can fall back on if my "creation" has a bad day, he does not sound so blessed. I LOVE a project!..........just hate to see folks throw a lot of money at one then, get frustrated........I always like to throw out the caution flag just because of that. |

And the best part is, in your day to day driving, you still have a fuel efficient V6. The trick is first, you need to lower the compression of the motor. It is about 9:1, you need to get that down to 7:1. You can do that with either a different crank or shorter rods, or by using an extra thick copper head gasket and stronger head studs. Then you add a fuel management unit (increases fuel rail pressure under boost), larger injectors, reflash the computer with a new tune, and add a wideband sensor hooked to a gauge. You also need the supercharger (or turbo), a waste gate, a blow off valve or diverter valve, and an intercooler, plus any piping to hook it all up. This will probably run you at least $2000. But it will smoke just about any other light truck out there. You already have some of what you need (the tuner) so that will take about $500 off that. You can implement some of this stuff in stages. So no need to come up with a big chunk of change up front. If you skip some of this stuff you could cause engine damage, so you have to take it slow, and avoid using boost till you know the engine can take it and the tuning is set up properly. |
