Another wire harness question
We found a 1985 Ford F250 gas, dual tanks, no air conditiongin, standard, 300 6 engine.
Will it work?
The A/C wiring should be either already on the harness, or just an "add-on" harness that plugs into the main under dash harness, therefore that shouldn't be an issue either.
There is one thing that kinda jumps out. You say the truck has a 460. Does it use the in-tank electric fuel pumps, or a mechanical pump on the engine? I know that some of the 460 trucks had electric pumps, but not the exact year in which they started showing up.
If yours has the electric pumps, it could be a problem. If you have the mechanical pump, it may work just fine.
That tells me that any other harness will have to be modified.
Modifying or repairing harnesses is not that hard, just takes a little time to understand what each element (wire) does on the original harness and apply it to the new harness.

Hot Fuel Handling was an option available across years.
More for climate than any other reason. Just like you don't see rear window defrosters on Florida cars and there were many 2wd SUV's down south you also see a lot more 460's w/ electric pumps where vapor lock is(was) common.
My mechanical pump won't fail due to a seized bearing or burnt winding, and I don't have to drop the tank to change it but if underhood temps cause the fuel in the line to boil the pump can become 'airbound'.
In 23 years I haven't had this problem, but it could happen.

I know all about the underhood fuel boiling. My 300 had an inline fuel filter added just ahead of the carb. This had it sitting ~6" above the exhaust manifold. It would restart hot easily, but after 2-3 minutes, the carb was dry, and the fuel line/filter was "airbound" from a vaporlock....
Shutting the truck off, with engine warmed up, you could open the hood and see the fuel boiling inside the filter.
Anyone else who is a Ford truck nut that frequents this board all the time would have several of the options that have been discussed to try and get the melted wiring harness going on this truck. I get the impression they are going to need the exact harness, or this truck is dead in the water. I believe they will be able to find it eventually, but it may take awhile.
If I am figuring this right, the best thing any of us can do is think of a truck we know of that matches theirs, and offer to get and sell the correct harness to them at a reasonable price.
As for helping find an exact match harness, I'm more than willing to hunt a couple local yards, but we still will need to know additional info. Electric or mechanical pump(s), and guages or idiot lights. There *may* be even more info needed.

Now if Jennifer posts back with more information, or better yet detail pic's of her engine bay, perhaps one of us could help.
Not too many '83's left here in snow country but I will look around while trying to find the few parts I want for mine.
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
We are located in North Central Wisconsin. I've tried most of the "known" salvage yards within a 70 mile radius of Wausau Wisconsin and have not found anything yet.
First, thank you all for the time you have spent considering our issue. I really appreciate it. My home computer does not like this forum, too many graphics and it shuts down so it was all we could do to get this post up over the weekend. I apologize for not checking in with the information you need.
Our truck does not have the in tank fuel pump, it is the mechanical and it has gauges, not idiot lights.
I looked at the other thread and would have had my answer without posting this had I done so earlier. I apologize for reposting as it were.
So, what I'm getting is that our truck is very specific. That we need an underdash wire harness for a 1983 gas, duel tank, standard (although automatic would work), mechanical fuel pump, gauges and 460 engine but it could be a 150 etc. if they had all the other features. Is that correct?
You know, I grew up in the 80's. I saw a lot of these trucks around our area. It is just so frustrating to not be able to find one now. I realize it has been a while but really - we live in truck country where people keep vehicles forever and when they are done the park them in the woods.
