Thanks for the replies so far!! I have a freind who has an '08 F350 Dually KR with the 6.4 and he had heard that some magical mileage the engine would "blow up"-not sure what that mileage that was though.
And I have anouther friend who just bought a '10 F250 Lariat with the 6.4 and he did no investigating about them beforehand so thats why I asked about the current status.
(Me, I think I'll just keep my '99 7.3 w/90k miles for now)
ULSD
CJ-4 oil
minimal idle time
very close watch on fluids (coolant)
allow exhaust cleanout to happen when it needs it
strictly follow severe duty maintenance schedule
The 6.4 was never "very problematic". The first '08's had to be reprogrammed but everything was minor.
It will blow up if you run it low on coolant and cook the EGR coolers. It won't last if you burn the wrong fuel.
i have had my truck now for 1.5 months. Have over 6000 miles, a combo of highway and city. Light duty towing bought mainly for longevity as I am racking up the miles. Average 17-18 mpg in combo driving and as high as 20 pure highway with no load (3.55 rear) and I am a very slow driver.
Love the truck and I have been following the guidance of the other members and following the severe duty maintainence schedule
have towed my 19ft mastercraft ski boat to our cabin and one trip with a car hauler - no issues.
'08 6.4 inservice date 5/08/07 57K miles. only engine issues have been fairly minor, oil pump assy repleaced at 38K for porous casting, radiator at 33K. No other troubles. I think this is one bullet proof engine if treated properly.

Greetings, so does this mean I can not use #2 home heating oil in my "10" F350 6.4
I like to burn transformer oil in my John Deere but the road diesels just can't use the fuel oils. The 20,000 psi high pressure fuel pumps and direct fuel injection systems probably can't handle oils. ULSD is really thin.
