My tail is dragging!!! Please help!!!!

When loaded my tail is dragging. What's the best up-grade to install and try to maintain the ride quailty? Add a leaf? Anyone out there run air ride suspension? As always I appreciate all your input!!

Theres more than one option depends on how much your hauling but airbags would be a option or you could addleaf springs im sure theres other stuff but thats my .02

I'll have around 1500 lbs. over the rear axle pulling a the wheel camper. I'm know quiet allot about air ride suspensions being in semi trailer manufacturing for almost 16 years and I do like the fact that you can set the ride height on it and no matter how much load is put on it will air up to the set height. I know that is how it works on semi's but not sure how it works on pick-up trucks?

Firestone airbags work awesome for me. Get the in cab controlls with the air compressor if you go that route. I imagine there is a kit out there that will automatically set your ride height, but it's really not necessary IMO; I just manually set the pressure depending on what I'm hauling to get the height and ride I want.

Or there's these that a few people have said work really well, one guy uses these with his slide in and loves em:
Riffraff Diesel: Roadmaster Active Suspension Kit

I wouldn't go add a leaf personally, that's going to kill your ride when you are empty.

X2 on the airbags. Ive had over 4000 lbs. in my truck just pump it up and you can barely tell. I have a dump bed on my truck and the hydraulics were bottoming out before I put in the air bags. No problems since. When nothing is in the bed let some air out for a better ride.

As Ron said, it might be time for new springs as 1500# shouldn't affect a SD that severely. If your springs are weak and you just added air bags, you could be putting an excessive load on the air bags. Just a thought.

We really need more detail on how your truck is set up.
When I read you opening statement, the first question that I had was do you have a front end lift installed without doing anything to the rear of the truck?
I've seen that on other trucks and they are dragging thier butt just sitting there.
Also are you using a weight distributing hitch? That would help a lot too.

I'm with Dan, we need to know more. How many miles on your truck, did you buy it new, if not did the PO tow or haul alot?? 1500 pounds shouldn't make too much of a difference like Ron said. I have a leveling kit in the front and when towing mine droops in the back a bit. F-350 blocks should clean up my sag when towing.

First of all I appreciate all of the input! I have an '02 crew cab 4x4 100% stock right now. It has 58K and never had a hitch in the bed when I bought it approx. 4 weekes ago. Always wanted a diesel and of course had to have the great 7.3! I may have misslead you all with the 1500bs. over the axle? I was guessing on the weight and it sounds like I may have missed it? The truck did have the trailer brake box still mounted in it so I assume it has towed something that had brakes but not sure the weight or how often? Sounds like I need to be more accurate on my questions and hope I haven't waisted your time! Sorry all!!!!! I will be adding the rough country full spring replacement in the front end to level the truck very soon, it's a 2 1/5" front lift........ Again, I hope no time was waisted on you all's time.

Ahh, no time was wasted, glad to try to help out and so were the others. A few more post's and you'll be able to set up your signature. Up in the left hand corner you'll see user CP, click on that and scroll down to edit signature, then you can add your trucks year and so on. Let us know how you make out or just ask those questions.

Is it a 250 or 350? A 1500# pin weight sure enough will make an F250 sag in the back. You can always try out some F350 blocks on the cheap and see if that does what you want. It'll still sag the same amount, just the sag will be higher. But still, the feeling between the RAS or air bags and not having them is a big difference. Or at least it is to me.

LOL, a f250 and f350 is neglible here. My 250 squats no more than the FIL's 350 with equal loads..and he even had overload and my e99 does not.

1500 is nothing..your truck should not squat too much with that..3500..maybe. I haul over 3000+ lb in the bed on a regular basis. I ended up going with two add a leafs in the rear to stiffen her up a bit this spring. Made a huge difference in hauling. Ride? who cares about ride, its a truck. Its usually working or pulling my 36' camper. But it's not bad either way.

But if you DO care about ride, the airbags are the way to go.
