Parts guy Ed's site has the fan blades for $194 and the clutch is $265. There is no way im spending $460 on a hunch. How can I check them? Ed also has the water pump for $300, I paid just under half with my discount at NAPA.
I have OEM Blue Diamond water pumps for alot less then $300.
i'm going to have to go with, you have either an unbalanced fan, or the blades are bent causing it to vibrate. Unless you somehow have a tensioner that is tightening the holy heck out of the belt and just causing a ridiculous side-load on the pulley, then there is really no other explanation for the bearing to wear like that. Unless... does anyone else run "Fleet Charge" ELC? I know the CAT ELC is safe, but maybe your brand is burning through a seal behind the pump impellar and leaking coolant into the bearing surface. That would def. kill a bearing with the quickness.
I got 3k on the water pump and its not leaking but there is some shaft play when i relieve belt tension . Ive been running without a fan and its been hot only having ac when you are moving. My oil temps run a max of 213F on a 90F day running on the highway.
~So should i get a electric pusher fan mounted in front the the ac condensor?
Know of any cars i can grab a big pusher fan off of in the junkyard? im not paying $100 for one.
I changed the belt tensioner on 7/07, dont have the reciept but i doubt its a lifetime warrenty unit. Whats a good brand? Im pretty sure its a dayco unit on it now with a 1 yr warrenty.
bump to the top and an update.
~right now the fan is not installed.
~3k miles later, the bearings are loose and making noise when you rock the pulley but the seal is still holding coolant so it cant be because of the fleetcharge coolant then.
~Got another tensioner from a different store(napa this time) different brand but looks exactly the same as my 3yr old dayco one, even the stamped numbers on it. New one has the same tension as the old one, maybe alittle more.
~I called international and my cost would be $270 vrs parts guy ed $300
ah, very true, I had forgotten about the differences in the earlier models
I am concerned about your problems, my pump just died and I am looking for the right replacement but I keep hearing stories like yours about pump failure, and I am not sure of the best solution, it seems like no one makes a good pump anymore, especially considering all of the trouble you have been going through................
still looking for a solution. Ive read over on PSN about guys running the SD fan clutch and blades on an OBS. Ive also heard the 6.0 blades bolt up to the OBS fan clutch. Anyone try this or can confirm it works.
I put the fan back on with out the shroud and at idle the blades move 1/4" - 3/8" forward and back.
Action4478: the clutch is tight when the engine is off, the blades dont move. but when the engine is running, the tips of the blades are moving about a 1/4" front to back.
Parts guy ed: which part do you suggest I replace? clutch, blades, pump, tensioner, just my luck?
If the fan runs true with a new pump (did you check it?) I would replace the pump. The fan won't be bad unless there is a reason for it to be bent(crash ect) . If the clutch is bad , you have to look very close (engine off) for movement ..When I replaced my pump ( Ford OEM) I also replaced the clutch ..(just me)
