Hi I have a friend that has a 72 F100 with a 390 with a 4spd, was wondering if a 5spd from a 94 351w would fit or is there an different bell housing that you can get to make it fit?

Will not fit. The FE's have their own bellhousing pattern. There is probably somebody out there making an adaptor.

This is a regularly asked question. One site made a passing reference to an adaptor, but did not list one or link to one.

Check here:

AdvanceAdapters.com | Engine & Transmission Conversion Adapters - Advance Adapters

and find NOTHING for that application.

You have two choices if you want a 5 speed OD.

--NV4500

High Impact - NV4500 5spd

--Clark. No links there, you just have dig through pile of old trucks and busses and then machine the input shaft, change your bell and flywheel, make your own mounts etc etc.... all IIRC. Post 3 here has links to some posts by Dino, who has done the Clark thing.
