performer rpm question

I am workin on my 390 in a f100 4x4 it already has header and mild cam i was wondering if it worth geting the performer rpm intake to replace the cast iron 4brl intake it has now it seems to run out of breath about 3500 rpm but has good power on the bottom i am lookin to stay under 5000 rpm any suggestions thanx

what do you want to do with it??? 3500 seems like enough for a 390 to me, though im sure theyll take it awhile.

It is mostly street drivin mabe eventualy some mud drags but i wanted to get some ideas to how the rpm intake is before i spend that kinda money

The manifold shouldn't cause this.

Ignition and carb would be places to look.

Cam timing?

Rag left in the manifold?

Secondaries of the carb are not opening and/or the timing is way retarded

ok i was talkin to my uncle were i got the carb from it is a 1850 vacum secondary holley he jetted it down for some reason that help i would think to put bigger jets in i took out the plugs after i learned that the looked lean to me is this a good place to start

Unless you did a proper "plug chop" and then checked the plugs, all the plugs are telling you is what your idle mixture is.
