Terminal Terminals
When I pulled the plastic cover off the positive terminal, there it was-- the wonderful world of corrosion.
This got me wondering-- (granted, a precarious proposition)--
why Ford uses a plastic battery shield that hides access to the cells. It forces you pull the terminals to check or add distilled water. I don't want to be surprized again, so I tossed mine.
Ford also uses cheapo copper clamps as battery terminal connectors that are prone to corosion because of the dissimilar metal of the nearby clamping screw. Just a little corrosion caused my screw to freeze, which, in turn, stripped the threaded side of the clamp.
I cut those suckers off and replaced with the old fashioned lead terminal connectors which have zinc-plated clamping bolts.
Okay, this exercise may be utterly **** of me, but I'll sleep better.
I'd like to hear if anyone in the forum has a better idea-- Ford obviously does not.
