I recently ordered some custom tunes from a anonymous shop. I got a tow tune (seems to work well, feels a little over stock), a street tune (decent gain over stock, not reall impressive though), now the on that bothers me, the race tune. They claimed about 150hp over stock on the race tune, it feels about the same as the street tune until around maybe WOT 2nd gear 2,000 rpm its like a violent increase in power, but kinda inconsistent, it just doesnt quite seem right too me. I was just wondering what you all think, is this something you see on your race tunes? Should I look a different place for tunes? or is it a problem with my truck? Thanks in advance.
yea, I understand that, but this is a shop alot of FTE members buy certain parts from, but ive never seen any posts about their tunes.
Well, you have to understand too just because they have quality mechanical parts doesn't mean that their tuning is up to snuff. I'm not saying it isn't, but at the same time I'm not saying it's definitive that they do as well.
I know it's not what you are wanting to "hear", but that's the way it goes sometimes.
A lot of program behaviors depend greatly who is doing the tuning. For instance, spartan has what they call a hybrid race tune. Half throttle and less it acts more like an economy tune, more then half throttle, it acts like a race tune. Without knowing who made the tune, I (or anyone else) couldn't say that what your dealing with is just a part of the programmer's tunes. Or the programmer just isn't good at tuning. Either one is possible. There might be a reason why you haven't heard of them posting about that shop's tunes. I'm not saying that's definitive, but without knowing more specifics, I can't say one way or the other about it other then that.
curious...
if you've NOT seen anyone speak kindly of 'the anonymous tuner' or you feel there's a reason not to mention him...
why would you trust your $10k engine to him ?
I marvel at people that swap tunes they 'found' on the internet or
a buddies, friends, sister gave them to him....
I had tried tunes from some that had been spoken kindly of.... and their price was cheap....
after 5 minutes with the tune, I presumed the kindly speakers were employees... and KNEW why their prices were cheap....
I go to Eric @ Innovative.... not that he is the only one, just that I have personal experience and no one has spoken badly of his tunes...

The general form of that statement:
"Just because they have quality (name your own device, service, etc.) doesn't mean their (name your other device, service, etc.) is up to snuff."
If they can turn a bolt, it does not mean they can wield a soldering iron.
If they can wield a soldering iron, it doesn't mean they can buy components.
Its not a custom tune unless it puts a smile on your face. My tunes came from Jody and I'm very happy with them. The only violent increase in power I have is when I put the pedal to the floor. Please try Eric, Jody, or Spartan for some good tunes.
Sorry, im having trouble explaining whats going on. I can be going down the hiway, and gradually giving it more throttle, and at somewhere around 3/4 throttle, it feels like i quickly pressed it to the floor, but i cant ever really be sure when its going to happen. And sometimes it feels like its making alot more power than other times. I hope that explains it a little better. Im starting to think i might just have to try a tune from someone with a good reputation, then i will know for sure.
It depends on where more HPO oil and fuel are commanded. At about 2500 RPM's my tunes really turn on, so I understand what you are saying to a point. If you are having tune problems and your tuner is a reputable one then they should be able to explain what is going on. The three hwybee named are very proficient tuners as is Matt at gearhead, although I've only run tunes from 2 that were named--Spartan and Innovative.
I finally gave in and ordered a new street tune from innovative diesel, and finally found out what you have all been talking about. Now if i could only get my money back from the last guy. Thanks for the help.
