egr cooler plug

I was told by my local tech today that he could plug the egr cooler on my 04 6.0 to help prevent head gasket failure. He would take it off and weld it closed?Has anybody heard of this being done.He also said that it would not throw any codes? If so what would be the pros and cons. Thanks for the reply.

I have heard of it being done and still failing if that is what you mean. it will not prevent head gasket/head bolt issues. it may reduce them by a small amount.
what year is your truck if you have an 05 there is a 50/50 chance you will not get an mil.
if you have an 03/04 you wont. if you have an 06 and up you will.

It is 04. Thanks for the reply.I just got done reading a bunch of pages under the tech guides.I did not want to open any old issues but I am new to the 6.0 ownership and I really love them.I want to delete the cooler and want to keep everything else stock. With a delete kit will I need a tuner?I would guess no?

Wow,my head hurts. After reading more pages on egr delete I dont know what to do.I could go DIY,expensive kits, weld it,block it,re-route it,upgrade it? Almost a little to much info.I guess Ill keep reading.

I dont recomend anything along the lines do or dont. I did it well because Its me, my truck and I like to tinker. Its also what I work on full time. So for me its a non issue. I dont have problems with inspection stickers either.

what I have noticed is running stock you will have a bit more lag and less boost, or that has been my case. Nither bothers me. I spend much of my time on the highway doing 65-75mph.
I will at some point be able to put more to the ground then I do now about 120-140hp over stock. so I was proactive.
If I had no want to add much more in the way of power then I would a) leave it alone b) or go with an aftermarket cooler (I have not seen one yet but it looks positive)

Now the up side with no cooler and less boost is less likly to have cyclinder heads lifting causing the coolant to be pump out of the degas tank.
