I was trying to remove the rotor using a bolt through the caliper bracket mount and i managed to bend one of the ears. i imagine that the only way to fix this is to replace the steering knuckle? Has anyone replaced one before and how hard is it to do? I think i might try to tackle it this weekend. Doesn't look too bad in the haynes manual. Do i need any special tools or am i going to need to replace any other parts? The truck is a 1997 regular cab 4.6 4x4
Thanks
JP
i would not straighten the ear, but could you grind off the deformed part that is in the way and make it flat like it sould be so the caliber will bolt up straight? If you want to replace the knuckel, you will need to remove the caliper and disc, then remove the axle center BIG nut, push the alxe inward an inch or so. NOw use a ball joint tool to remove the steering tie rod, lower ball joint, and upper ball joint. sometimes you can smack the side of the knuckle where the ball joint goes thru it and loosen the joint that way. After the ball joints are loose, remove the knuckle and the wheel hub/bearing. Once off, you can remove the hub and bolt it to the new knuckle.
So i got a knuckle from the junk yard. It has the hub on it. Should i use the hub i have or just use the one from the junk yard? Is there anything that i should change if i use the junk yard hub and knuckle? I am also couldn't get the axel nut off with my breaker bar. Any tricks to getting it loose. I used a pipe, but could see the breaker bar bending so i didn't want to try too hard. I am assuming that it is regular thread and not reverse thread.
