so I got the front axle out from under the truck and can't seem to get past the spindle to replace the rotted out dust shield .. got all the obvious bolts and the axle shaft is loose inside the hub .. just the spindle isn't budging (even after a few wacks with the BFH) ..
pb blaster and more wacks with a dead blow you kinda screwed yourself by takin it of the axle cuz if it was still on you could use a slide hammer and the spindle attachment and get it off that way thats how i did mine a week ago a real pain but you can rent them from autozone so its no biggie
I'm having a rough time with my buddies truck. I've PB Blasted it, heated it, slide hammered it, 5lb. sledged it ( with wood on top over it of course), & drilled 2 jack bolt holes in it with no success. Anybody have any ideas. When I did my truck they came off with 2 or 3 dead blow hits.
i hit bak in the lugs used a slide hammer to pull and i would hit it with a dead blow every few hits with the slide hammer it took a while but worked make sure you hit it up and down and side to side
its a pita it took me a good hour to get it off my truck it was on there good 210,000 miles and i swear it had to be the stock ball joints cuz it was a nightmare
I had to soak them in PB for a couple days when i pulled them off an axle out of an 85 that had been sitting in the junk yard. I had a huge rubber mallet and whacked away for hours and hours, constantly changing direction, they eventually came off. Then i cleaned up the mating surface to make it easier next time.
