I am trying to locate a suitable replacement or rebuild kit for my truck. The carburetor is a Carter ABD 2 barrel, which to my understanding was used in Ford from '57 to the early 60s and on Lincolns in the early 60s. Everybody around town wants a carburetor number to cross ref. a kit, but I do not think I have the right number on hand. The ones I pulled off it are 61442, 01280 and 11615. The kits I found online are running $70... so even if I can't find a cheaper kit I would like to just replace the carburetor completely. Does anybody know of Carb. models that will bolt right up in place of this one? Thanks for looking-
With regards to carb kits...I have found it is best to go to a carb rebuilder and purchase the parts from them...although sold individually, they will put together the right kit, with excellent parts that fit & work correctly and the price.....just about the same as a "typical" slep boys kit. With regards to replacment carbs, I would 1st look at Holley...they have an excellent 2V carb in both 350 & 500 cfm versions (I would recommend the 500 for both 6 & 8 cyl engines). The are essentially 1/2 of theie 4V carb, have been around for years in both street & track applications, come with options including an electric choke, etc.
So, I bought the kit and got the carb all broken down and cleaned. I can't put one of the jets back in because the threads came out with it. I need to find another ABD or accept my loss of $70 on the kit. I also have another intake for the truck, it had a Holley 4000 on it. What carburetors can interchange with that? I tossed the 4000 after reading about their fire issue. I could very well end up picking up a junkyard Ford 2100...
