no a/c - blend door?

no a/c - blend door?

I've been doing a lot of reading about blend door problems, and I have a question. If the blend door is broken, will the a/c compressor still turn on? I just bought my '98 Expy this winter, and now that it's warm out, I've found out my air doesn't work. I took a look under the hood tonight, and the compressor wouldn't engage. Is this just a case of low freon?

it could be low on freon or a fuse or a sensor or the control head or the clutch on the compressor
