I am wondering the same thing! I found some Dodge D-60's for a whole lot less, and am considering this as well. The Ford ones are much rarer and much more expensive. I have found some Dodge D-60, with the differential on the same side as the ford models, along with steering linkage. I want to say its gearing, and spring mounts that are the only differences. I am still researching that one though.. as this will most likely be the route I go.

IF YOU DO, POST ABOUT THE BUILD, SHOULD BE STREIGHT FORWARD IF YOU BUY NEW PERCHES
just so you guys know, dodge changed to a drivers side drop front axle(like ford) in 1994 when they changed body styles. all dodge driverside drop d60 fronts are worthless "almost" d60's. they have two piece inner axles with a vacuum disconnect that makes them weaker, as well as only having 30 spline axle shafts for inners and outers. and yes, since 1994 they are all coil sprung. 100% not worth the time or effort, even for a buggy. i also believe they have unit bearings, but am not 100% sure on that.
the dodges gears are a little different from fords too. fords gear in the front is cut differently so when your in 4x4 the front axle is slightly pulling the truck. great for ice and snow. it was a very good design.
