Cold Cranking Amps & Reserve Capacity

Is 800 CCA and a reserve capacity of 100 adequate for our trucks? I live in central Texas. It gets into the 30's every now and again during the winter for maybe a few months and occasionally the 20's.

WALMART....60 bucks a pop. replaced mine in 06. talked to the new owner the other day and they are still going strong. EVERSTART brand. i read somewehere a long time ago all batteries are made by only 2-3 companies and rebadged. who knows...they were the correct one for the truck as well like 1,000cca or something like that. pretty good warranty as well.

Yeah I saw that same article on the 3 major battery manufacturers. I cannot remember but think they are interstate, Deka, and another. 60 bucks for 1000 CCA! Wow, I guess O'Reillys got me good a few years ago. I'll look into it.

Do you run a generator on it or something?

I run a winch with it mainly, some lights too. Got it all wired in yesterday so my alt. charges it some while driving.

you get what you pay for. neverstarts are junk....for that matter most wally world batteries are junk. interstate makes great ones and so does optima. you pay $$ for the optima but they have really good cca and ca. spending that much hurts but worth every penny.

I'll take my walmart battery anyday for the price. 3 years right on the sticker free replacement. I agree optima is nice but tooooo spendy for some of us. Lots like me, as many vehicles we have i'd have to mortgage the house to pay for all optimas!!!!!!!!

I have a yellow top optima in my jeep and two red tops in my truck and they are worth every penny. They cost a lot but I will never buy any other type of battery, I would even be willing to say I would buy a optima even if someone gave me a free walmart one. I even tested my truck batteries when it was like 5*f for a week and I hadn't driven my truck for that week and forgot to plug it in and it fired right up. I put my jeep battery through a good test also. I didn't realize that I lost my alternator during wheeling but my battery had enough juice to keep my motor running and constant starting of my jeep all day. The red top is 850CCA, so I have a total of 1700CCA, so if you have a good 800CCA then it should be enough for use in texas

Walmart or Costco, same battery basically, same price for the most part, and tons of options for warranty if you ever have problems.
