Ok I am looking to do the d60 conversion to my f250. I have been searching for a while now and found one that's a good deal but it has 3.54 gears and my truck has 4.10's. How much of a pain is it to change the gears/is it worth it. Also is it exspensive for new/ used 4.10's? The guy is also selling the rear axle from the same truck so dnt know if that would be the better route to take. One last thing is there a big difference between the different gears?
Thanks for any info/opinions it is greatly appreciated
As for gear pricing, new I know they can have a price on them that doesnt excite me alot. Used.. Surprisingly enough lately I have been coming across several sets of 4.10's for a livable price. Its all going to depend on where you live and availability.
As for change out, not really that difficult! The great thing about changing gears, is that it gives you another good reason to change out the gear oil, something most often neglected!
It is very important to match up gears on your front axle with the rear axle. I know that with some designs, gearing may be ever so slightly higher in the front as compared to the rear on some models, but for the most part gears are identical sizing in both axles. Side effects are dangerous if not matched. Is it worth it? If you dont want an accident while running in 4-wheel drive!
Does the dodge D60 front axle directly interchange with the Ford D60 front? Anybody know? I have been seeing some smokin deals on some Dodge D60 fronts, and not so much on the Fords. The latest axle I am looking at is a D60 front out of an 01 dodge...
If its a good deal on the D60 then get it no matter what. You can put used gears in it pretty cheap if you shop enough. The hardest part about the swap is the set up of the gears to make sure they dont make noise or wear fast. I would recomend staying with the 4.10s. i went from 4.10s to 3.55s with my D60 swap and don't like it at all. And like Midwest said, don't mis match the gears.
Good luck
Is it just a spring perch difference? or is the steering all different, and the u joint diff.... What's the deal? I haven't ever looked at the Dodge one, so I have no idea. I was thinking maybe it's a reverse cut and the dodge t-case spins the opposite way of a ford?
iF YOU REGEAR YOURSELF, IT'S SUPPOSED TO TAKE 3-4 HRS. IF YOU KNOW HOW... IF NOT, THAN EXPECT A FEW DAYS WHICH INCLUDES THE LEARNING PROCESS. YOU WILL NEED A PRESS TO PRESS OUT THE PINION.
THE GEARS YOU CAN PROBABLY FIND FOR $200-$300. i'D GO TO YUKON TO GET THOSE.
iF HES SELLING THE REAR AXLE FOR A PRICE THAT'S COMPARABLE TO THE PRICE OF THE GEARS, I WOULD BUY THAT AXLE.
i WOULD ALSO PREFER THE 4.10'S, DEPENDS ON WHAT YOU USE THE TRUCK FOR

Not sure on what all is different but I know the later dodges were coil mount. They also don't have locking hubs like the fords. They use the things on the axle like the jeeps do and I just didnt like it. ihave no idea what it is called tho. it looks like it connects and disconnects the axle shafts.
Randy's ring & pinion has all you need. Gear set I recall at $200 install kit 197w/everything you need(just rebuilt juniors). Need a good press and bearing splitter to get bearings off carrier and pinion.Harbor frieght for that $25,i think.

I think your talking about auto locking hubs which basically means that they're always locked
