where is the cruise control/horn relay on a '87 f-250 xlt lariart 6.9l with tilt wheel. i know its under the dash, what i need to know is more exactly where under the dash it is located. thanks in advance for any help with this matter.
look guys i don't want to make anyone mad but this post gets hits just no help. even if you don't have the answer can anyone direct me to someone , other than a ford dealer, than would have a better idea than having to chase wires. again thanks if you can help
I looked at my EVTM manual for a '92 F-series, there is no cruise relay on it. I do not know how much different your '87 is from mine. What problem are you trying to resolve?
Bronco F-150 thru F-350, E-150 thru E-350 and Super F Series
The horn relay is use on vehicles equipped with speed control and is located under the left side of the instrument panel, left of the steering column and is mounted on the outboard attaching screw of the speed control amplifier module.
I cant really help cause the 6.9 is a diesel and the only SPEED CONTROL im aware of Ford having back then was vacuum operated. Unless Ford put a vacuum pump on their engine (again im not sure) I couldnt tell you. If someone around here knows theyll show up. Just give it some time.
My problem was the Speed pick up that mounts at the Speedo cable where it connects into the tranny (Not to be confused w/ the VSS mounted on the Diff, which on your truck is specific to Rabs function). Takes about $56. and 2 minutes to change. I tested the switches, fuses, individual components & replaced the VSS on the diff (for a separate RABS problem) to no avail first.
thank you rla2005 that is what i needed to know. to you other guys this relay powers both the cruise control and horns, and since neither of mine works that was the next thing to check. again thanks to you all.

What he is trying to say is that the power for the buttons on the wheel are supplied by power coming through the coil of the horn relay.
Look at the diagram I posted above.

I see now. Still a good idea, if you have to hit your horn it's reasonable to assume that disengaging cruise control might be a good thing!
