Dipstick

The dipstick on the Ford F150 series pickup is weird. Most dipsticks you can tell whether or not you need 1 or 2 or more quarts of oil. The Ford dipstick has about less than an inch of an indentated area at the bottom of the stick where you can see oil on the stick and it reads at the top end "Max" and at the bottom end "Min". That makes no sense to me. Can anyone tell me how to read this dipstick? Is Max full and Min empty? That doesn't make sense.

At the min mark you can add 1 qt and bring it to the max mark, if it is not touching the stick add 2.

Your owners manual will tell you how many quarts of oil you need with a oil and filter change, my 97 5.4 takes 6 and puts it in the middle of the hash mark. As far a I know it should NOT be filled to the top of the hash mark.
If you don't have an owners manual you can download one HERE
