Please Help. I Just bought a 79 f250 with a 4.9 300ci. It had one dipstick in the front and another tube only in the back that was taped up.
When I got the truck the dipstick in the front is really short and didn't have any fluid on it but since it went into the motor, I assumed it was the Oil. I changed the oil and put in 6 quarts and still shows nothing on the stick.
I looked all over for aftermarket dipsticks and I can't find any. I can't find any sources stating the lengths I need either
I went to the Junkyard today and picked up a dipstick from a newer 300 and put it in the front dipstick tube, it was too long and it hit the bottom and no fluid on the stick
I put it in the tube in the back and it seems like the tube is broke in half f cause it's really far down there but there is oil on the dipstick.
1. I need a new dipstick tube for the oil or the length to buy a new one.
2. I assume the first one is for the tranny but there is no min/max on the stick. Should I add more tranny fluid (4speed stick)
I'm slowly but surely working out the kinks on this thing, only had it a week. but the engine runs great!
Is your truck a 2wd or 4x4? Either your engine or your oil pan has been swapped. The front dipstick is for the 2wd 79 & older 2wd trucks with a center sump oil pan.
The rear dipstick is for 79 and older 4x4's or 80 & newer trucks ( both 2wd & 4x4 ) with the rear sump oil pan.
Does your rear dip stick go into the side of the oil pan?
Just read another of btracy's threads where he actually listed the info. Why he didn't in posts 2 & 5, I dunno.
I was typing a response to your original post, but then noticed your edited "Nevermind."
Sorry about that.
I thought you were asking gowild0706. But then I noticed it was to btracy's post and I somehow combined both of their info. btracy's hi-jacking totally confused me.
