ok computer techies!
well, its been a while but i am going to build my own system up again. (last one i built was in 2002/3.
here is what i am thinking:
AMD Athlon II X3 435 Rana 2.9GHz
GIGABYTE GV-N240D5-512I GeForce GT 240 512MB
GIGABYTE GA-MA78LM-S2H AM3/AM2+/AM2 AMD 760G
G.SKILL 2GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (x2)
Antec BP550 Plus 550W Continuous Power ATX12V V2.2
Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 ST3250318AS 250GB
there is also a heavy duty fan for the processor, speakers, dvd-r, cool green light up case (haha) etc
what do ya'll think? trying to stay somewhat low cost but have a system that can handle some light gaming. nothing hardcore.
thanks!!!

Seems like a great system in the works. Have you thought about doing anything with bluray drives?

Even on a budget build, I would go 4gb RAM, and a lot bigger hard drive. A 1TB is only about a C-note. Can you even buy a 250gb any more? I'm sure you can, but it probably costs the same as a 1TB.

remember if you go more memory you'll need 64bit OS to use it. yes on the 1TB hd

Windows 32bit, XP, Vista, W7, all handle 4gb maximum. You need 64bit to handle more than 4gb.

well, i looked at the TB HD and yeah... 15 bucks more gets me one, so ill go with that.
i have 4GB of RAM budgeted. figured i might only get 3GB in an XP system but i can go with a W7 upgrade later down the road.

You might not see much diff between 3gb and 4gb. It might come down to how many dimm slots you have and how you want to populate them. Ram is just so cheap these days I like to just load it up from the getgo.
Sounds like a nice system. Good luck.

The 4 GB memory suggestion is a good one (it just doesn't cost that much more and mixing memory stick sizes isn't always a good idea) but in 32 bit XP (not sure about Vista or Win 7; I'm still using XP), 3.2 GB is all the OS will "see."
