Do you think its worth the money with the parts that are listed. I was going to ask this in the 385 section but this section seems to get much more traffic.
I found this cars by carl guy on the 460ford site. Anyone ever heard of him?
The $6850 engine ? Seems like a lot of money. Those sure are ugly valve covers ! Do some research and see exactly what all the parts would cost. Doesn't say anything about the block. I'd check the better business bureau and see if they have had any complaints. Don't forget the shipping costs.
Although I have to say, buying the parts you need and getting them built or building the engine yourself seems cheaper.
My buddy did this with his engine, spend $1500 for a 400 horse chev,
i don't know machine shop prices around you, but you could probably buy the additional parts for your block, take it to a reputable shop, and come out for less than their price. aluminium heads are sweet, but you can either buy, or have a cast set worked over for less. and stroker kits aren't too expensive anymore. maybe pm kris(alpha) and karl(kjett)
they know where the good, less expensive parts are, and they know what will get you to the power level that you are after
"Power potential 625 HP @5500 rpm and 625 lb/ft @4000 rpm+"
I think I rather get "guaranteed"with a Ford crate motor from Summit Racing.
There is a Summit Racing in GA, close enough probably for you to drive up and get it.
There is only 1 BBF from Summit. Its 10 grand and it has a solid roller camshaft. I drive this truck quite a bit and dont want to have to keep adjusting the valve train.
So don't buy a crate engine. I'll bet you could build a better ( or pay someone to build one better ) for less than ten grand. Call around, get some prices. See what parts you would want and make a list, you can set a budget, and probably get a better deal then a crate engine would cost you. Just seems like a better way to spend money.
If you are really set on a crate engine, you might check out http://Jegs.com
Wow.... Their prices sure have gone up. Last I looked their street brawler shortblock was around the $1900 mark...
With how cheap stroker kits are getting you can build alot of power for cheap, way cheaper than that crate engine.
Carl is a stand up guy and well know for his crate motors. The price is decent considering you will get a quality built motor build by a professional race motor builder with quality parts. Yes, you can piece and part a motor together for less if you have the tools and knowledge to do so, but for the average guy that has never built a motor, Carl's will do the job and have no problems down the road. The added bonus is the personal support you will get from Carl that you won't get from Summit, Jegs, or most of the other big warehouse parts places. If you do have the knowledge to do it yourself, then I'd suggest giving Lem Evans a call and he will put together a kit with exactly what you need.
No offense to the guys on this site, and I'm sure I'm gonna **** on someone's corn flakes for saying this, but there's only 2 others besides me in this particular forum (Alpha and Monsterbaby) that know in pretty good detail what will and what won't work on a 460 to make the power you are looking for for mud racing. There's a reason we keep motor questions on the other forums.
maybe pm kris(alpha) and karl(kjett)

i forgot rob, but he don't like me anyways. **** on them cornflakes karl :flipoff:
Rob has forgotten more 460 knowledge than I'm sure Kris and I have drank away. And that's combined! For being a midwest hick, he's a pretty fart smeller.
I should have said, I have never heard anything but good about Carl. Same goes for Lem, the bottom end for my next build is going to come from him. I can't consider buying a short block or a crate engine due to location... Add the border to any shipping and it just goes insane. That and I have always built my own. My current engine is pretty cheap and docile, but, it is a torque monster built for trail use and if I ever get around to putting the D0VE's on it I should have enough hp that I won't feel bad mentioning it... LOL
I usually keep my mouth shut when it comes to building big blocks, as compared to some of these guys, I'm still in the enough knowledge to be dangerous stage... LOL
I can tell you how to build one hell of a 300 though... They sound different at 7000 rpm... LOL
