Stout big blocks.
Basically any of the standard heads can be ported to support good hp (over 600hp fairly easily) exception is stay away from D2VE casting, those are the worst of all the heads. you also want to stay away from teh FI heads (E7TE and F3TE) you just need to buy the pistons to get the comp ratio you want with whichever heads you go with. I prefer the D3VE heads for strokers if your staying with stock heads just due to the ability to keep the compression in a reasonable range without a huge dish. Example with a 521 (4.3 stroke 4.360 bore) and D0VE heads you need a 24cc dish to obtain a 10.75:1 compresion (actually too high to run pump gas but COULD be done) or more legitimately a 38-40cc dish to be a pump gas friendly engine. But with D3VE heads a 20cc dish will make it pump gas and easier to find. Bigger stroker makes it even worse (on a 557 and D3 heads you can run a 34cc dish and run pump gas, with D0VE heads even a 40cc which your not going to find would still be well over 10:1)
Now for best factory iron you would want D0OE-R (CJ, SCJ) or second best D2OE (PI heads) but those are hard to find and high dollar.
Personally I would save my money and buy a good set to begin with. TFS streets are decent especially with porting several guys are making well over 750hp with them or for more kick a set of Kaase P-51 heads that Jon got over 700hp out of a 521 UNPORTED.
I had a question about the engine. It has a 360 ci in the truck and I am trying to find out if this would be a heavy duty four bolt main, or a two bolt main block. Anyone have an idea? If it is a four bolt, I was thinking of a stroker kit to put the cubes up a little bigger, any good hints for a 360 stroker?
btw, this is the 2v 360, so would those heads junk if I wanted to pump the hp up?
lol, yeah, I kinda do that. first I was looking for a block to buy, but now I have a truck with a block in it, so
. Just out of curiosity what hp will a 360 block hold? at first I was looking for a block to be able to carry 1200 if I ever got there, but I think I'll go crate motor if I do that.
If it is manual (easier to do an engine swap as you would only need a bellhousing) just go get a junkyard 460 from a latermodel truck. Then get a set of C8, C9, or D0 heads and have them freshened up. Throw on a RPM intake, headers, and a carb, and you can have fun while you build your 1200HP motor.
I wish I had the budget for this monster.

I wouldn't believe that guy for a half second if he showed me a dyno sheet. 900hp WITH nitrous MAYBE.
A. he doesn't have a clue what is in that motor. A thick walled truck block? No such animal and then to claim it isn't honed? then that means it wasn't put together right to begin with, you MUST hone it to put in new rings. Next it would have ot be bored or something to be a 521 (521 is 4.390 bore which is .030 over)
B. to claim 900hp on pump gas? using SVO heads? I seriously doubt it. kaase has done it with his B9 heads but even ported A460 heads aren't running pump gas when making 900hp and since he mentioned it has an edelbrock single plane intake he isn't running A460 heads especially since he called the carb a 1000cfm it isn't a dominator and AFAIK ALL of the A460 intakes are dominator patterns or tunnel rams. Most likely IF it's even a stroker, it probably doesn't have a billet crank but even if it does it probably has the old A429 heads or at best the SCJ alum heads so I would expect probably around 700hp MAX
Basically I would stay WAY away from that motor. The guy that wrote that ad doesn't have a clue and several things don't match up so either someone soldhim a bill and he doesn't know the difference or I wouldn't trust the guy put it together right.
And for waht he is asking you can buy a FRPP brand new crate motor rated at 625hp from ford and it is NEW. and it will run on pump gas.
429 is a different engine family, so, no. 390 and 428 cranks will work.
