Getting close to starting the re-built Flatie, but need to pre-prime the oil.
Anyone have any ideas on how best to accomplish this?
I built a oil priming pump out of a gear pump from an oil furnace, pictures in my gallery. I feed it into the fitting on the side of the back of the block and can pump oil in at 70 psi. Any good gear pump will work and other types of pumps as well.
Did you use assembly lube on the bearings and other moving surfaces? If so you probably don't need to pre-oil. The system should be pumping oil before any damage can occur to the babbitt surfaces.
Did you pack the oil pump with vaseline before installing? If so you probably don't need to pre-oil.
Otherwise, pull the oil pressure sending unit off the back of the block and pump oil down the hole.
