54' Runs again!!

Finally got a night to put in the distributor parts and plug wires I ordered. Ran new wires from the selenoid to the firewall, found a bad wire from the ignition side of coil to the distributor, put in a temperary switch and got spark. Put some gas in the carb and it started to fire, once I got the fuel pump primed and fuel in the bowl, it purrs like a kitten. Couldn't believe how smooth it runs. Made my night, now at least I know I have something to work towards. I need to make sure I have oil pressure as I don't have the guages hooked up yet. Can't run it long anyway, no radiator.

This brings up my next question. All the parts catalogs show the radiator core support with two cross pieces diagnally. The support is still there, but I don't have the cross pieces. Does it need these? Does anyone have a picture if it does so I can see them. I don't see where you can order them seperate. Also not finding a radiator with the top hose in the center, has anyone ordered one? Any suggestions are welcome.

Hi that's great news about the truck running again.

I'm not sure about those radiator supports, but if they are waht Ithink they are you could probbly just make some out of rod stock and a die to thread them. The Effie guys will be along soon.

But they are probably going to want a little more info on your engine and set up. I'm assuming a 6cyl based on your radiator description.

congratulations!!.. nice when good things happen..

you don't NEED the cross braces, I am running without them on my 55.
the valence holds the top of the core support together with 3 bolts each side so I can't imagine these rods would add anything additional..

radiator.. I have 2 with the center return.. both need to be rebuilt, which seems to cost more nowadays than ordering a new one.

Midfifty has them, as does most of the F100 parts shops.

Thanks, I do see where Midfifty has the supports for about $15 a pair so maybe for originallity I might get them. Funny how a running truck got my wife more enthusiastic about getting a radiator ordered.

Ya know, ya treat 'em with respect, ya treat 'em as equals, give 'em a home and a life, but when comes right down to it they're all still just girls.
