Has anybody used Amsoil's antifreeze in a 7.3 diesel?

What year is your truck?

If it's a late '99 or up, I'd recommend a heavy duty Extended Life Coolant.

If you switched to a Extended life coolant, be sure to completely flush the green stuff out.. There are drains on the block you should use..

Nice, good to know as I am still fiddling with my green coolant to try and get it to where the boiling and freezing points need to be but what is this SCA additive or what ever it is and where do you get it?
And if one was to change their type of coolant how do you THOROUGHLY flush the system? Stick a hose in the tubes and start pumping tap water in?

I am an Amsoil dealer so I got some for one of my cars just to try it. I don't stock it or recommend it because it's expensive and there are other options that are just as good. I won't be useing it in my truck.

I am still useing the green stuff in my truck. It's best to run a coolant filter with green stuff to catch any silicate drop out (sand) and protect the water pump. You should check the PH with test strips. They are available at Napa pretty cheap. Keep the PH above 7.5. If it drops to 7.5 or below, then you need to add SCA (suplimental coolant additives). If you are running a coolant filter, they are available with or without a SCA pack in them, or it is available in a bottle from Ford or any quality parts store such as Napa.

I would not worry about the boiling or the freeze points..(if you have the correct amount of anti-freeze in your system).. The main thing to worry about is if the coolant has the right amount of SCA additive (if you are using the Green coolant).. Without the right amount, you could have a hole develop from cavitation thru your engine block.. Here is some good info:

No longer need to link to TDS. Here is Gooch's flush procedure and all the ELC info he's posted over the years compiled into one thread here at FTE.

With the E99 rig, ELC is not recommended.

LOL, well I ask because I've been trying to get my boil and freeze points where they need to be for my area but I will go get some test strips. I didn't know anything about test strips but will learn much more when I go to pick them up today. I changed my water pump and put more water then coolant in, or i believe I did.

Sorry, didn't mean to hijack your thread. You pulled up some good need to know information that I'm taking in like a spung.
