Flush EGR System
Anyone heard of this? Is it worth doing? Had my trans flushed today and dealer suggested I have the EGR system flushed at a cost of $350.00. Never heard of it before and opted not have it done, until I checked here first for opinions.
B & G makes an EGR system flush machine and cleaning agent:

Some dealers have been known to offer the service. Sometimes at a lot more $$$ than you were quoted. I don't believe it is sanctioned by Ford.
Without a recommendation from Ford corporate you will have to decide for yourself whether you think it is prudent or safe. Personally I would not do it.

Read the description carefully === the stuff is for gassers..
Nowhere does it say it is safe for diesels.
BG Company
I don't see where it specifies gas or diesel. But I know someone who had the service done on their diesel. Basically they pull your EGR valve, and cap the hole with their injection plate. Then they run the engine and inject the cleaner into the intake manifold. The system would be the same for gas or diesel, but they may well have a different solvent for the two. They don't offer it to you or I, only to their dealers, so their info is purposely vague.
My problem with it is that, assuming it will actually float the carbon loose, is that it then must pass through your valves, combustion chambers, and worst of all through the turbo. No thanks.

Thanks! I did skip it and don't think I will do it in the future. If it plugs up that bad Ford is still responcible for another couple of years. After that I'll remove the system and be money ahead. I just never herd of flushing the EGR system. I was at a large Ford dealership in Baltimore, Norris.
Thanks, I knew someone here probibly herd of it.

Then it does a number in plugging up the CAT...
Just read this on another forum.
I have a 2006 6.0 with 26,000 original miles on it; yesterday I had my local Ford dealership flush the cooling system and install new Ford gold coolant. I asked the diesel tech who did the job if the EGR cooler and oil cooler was back flushed. He stated they use a special back flush system that indeed back flushes both the EGR cooler, oil cooler, heater core, radiator and block. Parts and labor was around $177.00.
I just received a Diesel Site coolant filter system, am going to install later this week.

there is a bg egr flush that hooks in to the intake. The tech makes 3-4 hours on the job as a norm.
I have a different view of this and would not sale it to a customer. I see it as a snake oil. at best even if it worked its a band aid at best.
Ford will pay me to remove and clean the intake, check the cooling system, clean the turbo, check injector operation, reflash the pcm, and a few other things. this makes me far more in my pocket, and you the customer gets the best repair you can get for $100 deduct.
Also I would think hard about ever paying for an injector flush. There is more then 20k psi of fuel pressure at the tp of the nozzle. go ahead and plug one. If you are able to I wanna see you unplug it.

We purchased an EGR cooler flush system in our shop for our diesel trucks. I used it on a couple of our trucks already and I am impressed how it cleans the EGR system. For anyone who has already had to replace the EGR system on their diesel truck (somewhere in the neighborhood of $3000) having the the EGR system cleaned like this is a no brainer even at $350

The ethanol fumes must be hanging heavy over Iowa today. Who pays $3000 to work on the EGR system? I could do a delete, plus studs, plus reseal the HPO system, and probably even get a BPD oil cooler to really put a cherry on top for that kind of money.
