Hello FTE! Haven’t posted on this site before, I’m usually on PSD.org but my job started blocking that site so I’m here too! I have the dreaded p0088 going on and I know I will ending up getting a replacement HPFP with the CAB OFF procedure. My question is can you give me a list of good preventative maintenance or even MODS, that should get done while the cab isoff? Background on the truck is I bought it about 4 months ago with 148K on it.It still had the DPF and EGR’s intact and running at time of purchase. I deleted the DPF and CAT and did the software EGR delete with the Spartan 210 tune. Since this truck hadthe DPF and EGR intact up till almost 150k miles on the OD, I’m thinking there should be some other things to take account for possible preventative replacement maintenance. I’m looking for longevity, not crazy power gains. The Spartan 210 and2 10tow tunes give me all the power I need.
Maintenance Items:
-HPFP /w harness
oPossible fuel system overhaul if metal shaving are found in the secondary fuel filter
-Fuel Pressure sensor
-Fuel Filters
-Oil Cooler
-Rocker Arms
-Body Mount Bushings
-Thermostats
Mods:
-PCV reroute (I can to later)
-Coolant bypass filter (I can do later)
-EGR delete (I have to do this myself since Calishops will not delete emission system components.)
Please let me know if I'm missing anything in my list above. I appreciate all recommendations and ask that if you do recommend something please let me know if there is a product better than OEM that you suggest going with.
Hey UGA33! thanks for the 6.0 manifold recommendation. I have herd this being done on other 6.4 forums. I wonder how much a conversion like that would cost. Budget... well right now with the items I listed under Maintenance items (minus the fuel system overhaul) is about 6k, since it will be done at my local mechanics shop. But if something else sounds like it should be added then I might add another 2kish (again this is possible as long as I don't have to do a full fuel system over haul which I know will take me closer to 9k with Cali Tax added). It's All about doing it right the first time and while everything is easily accessible. Maybe Studding the Heads should be added but again not sure how much that would cost (head gaskets, etc...)
I was gonna mention doing the studs, but I understand if the fuel system is toast that bill will drive it up big time. If money wasn't an issue, I would say stud it. As for the uppipes, custom uppipes with 6.0 manifolds run anywhere from $600-1k. Depends on where you get em. I think your list is good. Especially the oil cooler. If I were to recommend a performance upgrade, it would be a 71 or 72mm atmospheric charger upgrade. They are a really good "bang for your buck" mod.
I would also do new push rods, and consider doing studs. Even if you do one at a time, and leave the rest alone it's a good upgrade and future selling point. Radiator hoses if they aren't already upgraded. I would also recommend pulling the water pump and checking for any cavitation issues on the front cover.
