The truck is a auto trans. and I like to replace it with a 5 speed manual. The tach don't work. This is the question, do the tach read from the speed sensor that is used for the auto trans or something else? Can I get rid of that sensor? Could there be another problem? Do I need something to make it work with the 5 speed manual?
The reason that I ask is that my 88 f-250 didn't have the speed sensor. I think that it had something on one of the injectors. The truck was a manual 5 speed.
thanks Matt
since i dnt kow yet how to move one pic from another thread over here i figure this will be just as good i had a similar problem and started a thread a while back here it is hope it helps https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/9...3-7-3-idi.html
The tach gets it's signal from a sensor mounting on the IP gear cover. If your tach isn't working, your transmission won't function properly as it uses the rpm signal to help it shift. If you are going with a 5spd, then it wont matter. If you want to fix the tach, 99% of the time it's just the sensor itself that has failed. You can get a new one from the dealership(about $80), you can look elsewhere, but you wont find it at an auto parts store.
