my 05 screw has a leaky pinion seal on the differential. is this just a matter of dropping the drive shaft from the yoke and popping in a new one? i've never worked on a differential, but my first thought is "how hard could it really be?", but i know this guy named murphy...
Maybe some members that replaced the seal themselves can offer you more detailed instructions. There may also be a DIY available.
I too experienced a leaking Pinion Seal, the local Ford dealership replaced it twice (first time I had to pay, think it was around $100). The third time, the inner & outer pinion bearings were replaced. They had to open up the "pumpkin" to do this. I worked a price out with the Service Manager as the intial quote was $1,200 for the "overhaul", they also put me in a loaner for the night.
