RESCUE EMT - I think you'll find that all of those rear end ratios are not available in a 250. I did a chart a while back in one of the other threads that compared the 3.31 with the new 6 speed to the 2010 numbers. I don't know if anyone ever checked my math, but it looks like the overall drive ratio of a 3.31 in first is taller than a 4.10 with a 2010 tranny first and a 3.31 in sixth is shorter than a 3.73 with a 2010 tranny fifth. Plus the new engine has more torque. Looks like the best of both worlds. I tow a boat & a camper that are both in the 10-11,000 lb range & also run bobtail probably 80% of the time and mi/gal is high on my list as well. I went with the 3.31. If I had received it yet I could tell you how great it was. Your mileage may vary.
I have maxed out at 16.2 MPG without towing and 900 miles.
My TAC has never been above 2700 RPM and max of 15 psi of boost and that's more than enough power. I've had payload but I didn't notice any MPG changes although even 500 lbs allows the truck to ride great.
It will be awhile before I tow a utility tractor so I don't yet know those numbers.
I drove both a 3.31 and 3.55 geared truck. I noticed a diffrence just in normal driving and from what ive read from a few people. the 3.31 and 3.55 get very little fuel economy diffrence. Thats why i have a 3.55 truck. Might be like 0.4-0.5mpg diffrence if that.
I really do not know what the gear differance means I had a 03 that had 4.10 gears and the gears made the truck scream and no gas milage the 3.73 on my 08 lots of power no fuel mileage I guess thats why im confused witch gears will produce lower rpm more fuel mileage is it 3 revoutions pinion to 31 revs of star gear so the 3.31 should get better fuel mileage or is this backards and the 3.73 is better
got agressive today and set out to get the best trade since im on the z plan for retired employes its who gives me the most money. So far between 31,000and 34,000 the best my 2008 has 17,000 miles on it and nada showes 33,770 so 34,000 is the winner i'll find out tomorrow if the deal is still good I went with 2011 6.7 lariat ,SC, 4x4 ,3.55 locker gears ,camper pkg,man step, remote start ,chrome cab step, all weather mats,275/70/18/all ter, ingot silver strlng grey ac,$46,634 plan. Just tired of between 8 and 11 mpg
