Ah... I see. Does she have to take a driver's test before it become official?
Here in NY a person takes a written test to get their permit. Then after completing a 5 hour safety course or driver's ed in school, and holding the permit for so many months, they have to take a road test that is given by a DMV tester.
She just completed several weeks of the school's driver's ed program - including 2 weeks drive time with the school instructor. Today was just an eye test and photo op for the actual license that comes in a little holder indicating she's a newbie.
Then, for the next 6 months, there are qualifiers about when she can drive and who she can have with her.
Second 6 months gets a little more lenient, then next June, she's automatically a full-fledged driver. No additional testing needed.
Neil here in md a person has to take a written or computer based test for the learners permit, then has to go through a few weeks of drivers ed, plus 60 hrs of driving time with their parents 20 hrs of which must be done at night, maintain good attendance at school, keep the leaners permit for 9 months and then they can go for the drivers test. when they go for the test it is by appt. only and they do part of the test on a course and the rest on the road with a state trooper in the car admistering the test. then if they pass they get a provisional license which doesnt allow them to drive after midnight unless an adult is in the car and go to a regular liscense once they turn 18 with only an alcohol restriction on it until they are 21.
