The engine balance changed sometime in the early 80's. The late flexplate may bolt onto the early engine, but it will not be weighted correctly.

I was hoping I could just bolt it up. Any Idea where to get one that will work?
I don't know of anyplace in particular, but these trans are quite commonly swapped into older vehicles along with a stand-alone controller, so I'm sure there's something that works. For that matter, it's quite possible that an older C6 or C4 flexplate might work.
The key would be to search for info about swapping this style trans into an early model car/truck, as it's the same pricnipal as what you are doing by swapping an early engine into the late model chassis.
