two cats?
two cats?
i have my 93 f150 and i saw that there are two cats underneath. since i live in a smog area of reno, nv would it be legal to ditch one and install a free flowing one where the other is?
You're going to have to check with the local authorities on that.
I replaced both of mine with a Walker 2 to 1 hi flow cat replacement pipe. It definately has a more pronounced exhaust note even with a new stock muffler. Sounds pretty good and still passes communist NJ emissions testing. Overall I used the 2 to 1 cat replacement with a gibson cat back single 3" swept side setup. Perfect fit and great quality.

Most of our trucks came with 2 cats. Someone may have replaced yours at some point. When you say crossover pipe do you mean Y pipe?
A good high flow cat will do the same job as well as flow better and sound better.

The problem with doing that is that most states even if they dont' do sniffer test have a visual emissions inspection at the time of a safety inspection. Also, Doing that is illegal in all states, since its a federal law.
When I had my tranny redone, they insisted on hollowing out the first cat to reduce potential heat sources if it was clogged. When it came time to do emissions testing, the truck failed, so I replaced the 2nd cat with a magnaflow. Truck passed emissions and the setup looks reasonably stock (they checked to see if both were there with a mirror).
