I found a used E series E4OD out of a '95 E350 with the same engine.
Anybody know if there are any fitment probs with switching these trannies? I'm just starting to research this swap now so I figured I'd start by asking here.
no, it should just go right in if it is the same motor. does the truck have four wheel drive? if it does the 2wd tranny from the van will need a proper output shaft.
Note you will need to put your old Solenoid pack in it or use the 95 harness plug to seal the Solenoid pack plug to the case.
Also the plug for the MLPS may be different.
The 95 is a better and stronger transmission also.
I've been searching for any info I could find on tranny cross reference tables, parts interchangability, etc., and all I could find is that E and F series Fords in the same year range use E4OD's.
I'm guessing that the only way it wouldn't work is if it was coming from either a diesel or a 4X4, but that ain't the case.
My timing is bad on this one, I'd like to go to the dealer with both VIN's and ask the parts clerk if the swap will work, but it's a holiday and everyone's closed. The guy who's selling it says he's got 2 other guys interested and the first who shows up with the cash gets it. As of 9pm last night he still has it.
Just saw your post as I was responding to mongo's.
Thanks for the heads up! I'll remember to get any harnesses and plugs associated with the tranny. The seller is parting out a wrecked van, so everything should be there.
Looks like I'll be changing my Memorial Day plans and doing a road trip, he's about 120 miles from me.
The tail shaft housing and the tail shaft may also be a different length.
Also look at where the transmission mount bolt holes to the cross member are.
Note you will need to put your old Solenoid pack in it or use the 95 harness plug to seal the Solenoid pack plug to the case.
Also the plug for the MLPS may be different.
The 95 is a better and stronger transmission also.
I need some help understanding my options with the solenoid pack.
Will the '95 trans with the different solenoid pack be able to hook up to my existing system, or will I have to change the computer and wiring harness in my '93 to match up to the new trans?
