Ok guys. I don't think I have the super duty clunk any more. Besides the fact I can't vet the split yoke to separate. When I was marking the reference lines for reassembly, I found this on my rear diff yoke. The bushing thing that goes in the u joints is broke and hanging out. And there is about 1/8 a turn of play in it. I think that is my clunking sound. I don't know what to do from here. Any help is greatly appreciated!
Is it the u joint that is broke? Maybe post up a picture. Hard to see what is broken from here. Replacing that u joint should be fairly easy. Maybe this will help: Slip joint regreasing
I have no clue how to post pics on here. And I followed the steps in the regreasing and the male and female won't seperate without me dropping my carrier bearing. The u-joint is what I spotted when I was marking the drive shaft and yoke. It's on the differential end. The little rubber pieces on one of the joints is torn and hanging half way out. This is allowing the joint to turn like 1/8 of a turn without moving the diff. I guess you would call it free play. And I don't know if I need to replace or rebuild the u-joint or even how to go about it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Looks like you just remove those two clips on the end. Then tap it out. It will have little cylinder bearings inside the cap. Not sure how hard that would be. Never done one on this truck. You can always take the whole shaft to a driveline shop and have them do it. Hopefully someone else can give you more insight.
Sounds like your u-joint bearing has gone out and the rubber seal on the bearing cap is hanging as you said. If you replace the u-joint you should be good to go. This is a common maintenance/repair job. This condition would definitely cause a clunk in the drive line.
