undercoating '99 250
Is undercoating a good idea for a Michigan truck? Someone told me that the box was galvanized but not the cab. Should I undercoat just the cab? The rear wheel wells on my '93 started to rust through at 150k I just bought this one with 20,000 miles on it and it's beautiful!

Personally, I believe in undercoating. The newer the vehicle when it's done, the better. I had mine done by Ziebart and would recommend them if you have a dealer/installer in your area. It is crucial that the vehicle be VERY clean and VERY dry when this is done. Good luck with your new trk!

Under coating will help but it will not stop rust if you don't keep the mud and salt out of the inside of your fenders. I have a '94 F-250 that was not undercoated and looks like it did the day it was new because I rinse the entire undercarriage and all body panels/cavities every time I wash it. There are many places for mud to hide under your vehicle. If it build up, everytime it gets wet it is going to erode your vehicle's ability to fight corrosion.
I use a garden hose to rinse the entire underside of my truck and use my hand to feel that is clean. Before I put the hose away, I look underneath to make sure I didn't miss anything. The carwash alone will not cut it.
