Instrument Cluster Switch

I have a 77 f100 and the cluster was beat up and upon pulling it it broke, as Im sure every one knows how that goes, but I was told or read somewhere that you can use a 81-86 cluster out of an econoline, which I got today in SUPERB shape, seems the 80s ones were just built stronger. So my question is, can I put my circuit board from mine on the other(80s) one and have it work. Any one know?

If it will physically fit, I would say yes it would work electrically. Ford seemed to keep the same senders and wiring till 1987.
