oil flow design flaw

this is from an article i read about the 351m/400.
an oil flow problem causes the crank bearings to wear out faster than they should. the article suggests to fix it, drill out the middle three oil holes, located in the block where the crank bearings go. then you tap them out and install restricters. this is part of a restricker kit by moroso #22050C.
somehow by restricting the flow to the cam, you increase the oil flow to the crank bearings. to go with this, a hight volume oil pump is needed.
does this make sense to you? have any of you used this technique? how did it turn out?
thanks for your information.

sounds scary to me, i wouldn't touch it. but if morso makes a kit, it must not be to uncommon. i always had the other problume. it doesn't get enough oil to the cam and distributor. after awhile you cant get the dizzy out. i've had many 351m's and 400's.

I've heard of this modification. I think it's mainly for high rpm engines that have been modified extensively. Our "stockers" should do fine with the stock pump and oiling system.

There's another oiling mod, in which a copper line is run from the oil port in front of the filter, and teed into the oil pressure sender port. This sends more oil flow to the rear bearings. I've considered this for my 351M, but as yet haven't done it.....

I think the past consensus has been that these mods are not neccessary or even helpful on a street engine. They are good for extended high rpms use, at least the restrictor set up.

On the other hand these engines do seem to wear out the mains before the rings. I wonder if using restrictors of larger diameter would be useful.

This issue pops up from time to time. I raced 351c's in the early 80's, ran the rpm to around 6500 give or take. I blew the motor 3 times. the first time it was a head gasket, the second time same, the third time, well that was fun. I has so stressed a connecthing rod that while doing a high speed run from Harrisburg to Hazelton in PA, the connectiong rod bolts snapped. the nice part is the end cap fell straight into the pan, bad part the piston impacted the head and broke the head.
I was never nice or easy on my motor, never used any of the gimicks, never had a failure of a bearing in all my runs. My racing was road racing in the mountians of PA, sanctioned or unsanctioned.
If you dont spin the motor over 600-6500 rpm you have no worries. Least I never did.

I have the restrictors in all my Pulling motors But this is a Race Only thing ... and you cant' use a hyd. cam or lifters with the restrictors in.
I also use the oil line from front to back to help out the little it does, And I also run a ShaZam hand made 14 Qt. oil pan so I never run out of oil.
