I've completed a 2003 Ex steering wheel swap into a 2000 Ex that originally only had cruise buttons to gain benefits of having the radio and HVAC buttons also.
Because I want to use an aftermarket navigation deck instead of the OEM 6 disc radio...I will be using a "Parrot UNIKA - RKi" to interface with a "Parrot RKi8400". These radio connections will be performed at a later time.
So far I am just focusing on the cruise buttons and will configure the radio and HVAC buttons at a later point when I purchase all of the neessary HVAC and radio buttons. I've purchased the digital HVAC deck and will tie this in later.
Let me preface the following by saying that for what I did....I did not have to replace the steering column, or the clock spring. I may find that I may have to replace the clock spring as I get into the HVAC and radio connections.
My method was to use the original 2000 Ex wiring and to get the 2003 wheel configured to my Ex and to not configure my 2000 Ex to the 2003 steering wheel. Does that make sense? So yes...you will have to use the 2000 Ex connectors and cut and splice wires from the Ex and the 2003 wheel.
I am missing a picture of the original 2000 Ex connection that comes from the steering column. I will update this tomorrow with a detailed picture and annotation.
I wanted to perform this mod with a cheap $40 junkyard steering wheel. Now that I know it works I will be replacing the cheap junkyard wheel with a nice new wood grain wheel with retained controls.
The above mod has been tested and passes with flying colors. All cruise control buttons and functions work as designed.
I won't be connecting the radio or HVAC buttons until......late October. That's when I will be revisiting this mod. Until then, I will be ordering the clock spring for the 2003 just so I have it when I get back to this. In the interium...I will acquiring all of the digital HVAC components and purchasing a 2001 Navigator wood grain wheel also.

Have you found the clock spring for the 2003 with controls anywhere? I searched for 2 hours the other day and came up empty!! If you have located the part could you tell me/us where and the part number if you have it?
My 2005 Ex has the steering wheel controls as shown in TexEx's 3rd picture....
but my on off rocker for the cruise broke and fell out... while I can still use the cruise by pushing the contact, it is ugly (and believe it or not, those little lites are BRIGHT at nite without a cover )
While you were in there, is there a simple way to replace the left switch assembly, or would it be just as easy to find a wood grain wheel to replace it with ?

....order from partsguyed
The switch is the simplest item to change.....while looking at steering wheel just pry out switch with a flat head screw driver. Dig deep and work it out of steering wheel all around perimeter of switch. The switches can be ordered from partsguyed easily. You do not need to disassemble air bag or steering wheel to replace switches.

my damn lights are burnt out in my switches on the steering wheel!
Well, a HUGE thank you to all that have done the steering wheel swap and all the trouble figuring out the wiring. After over 2 years, i finally saw these posts on here and tonight I got my cruise control working. Thanks again to all who showed pics and your experiences with the wiring. I made the mistake 2 years ago and cut the plugs off of the harness thinking i was just going to soldier the connections. And its all done now.
Probably the easiest way to tackle this mod is to look in the factory service manuals for the wiring diagrams. This will show you how the wiring is configured and what other potential parts you might need to complete the job. After you figure out what is needed, you can then start examining what your vehicle already has and what it doesn't. The wiring diagrams will show the differences between standard and optional equipment so that you will know what needs to be added.

great post!! why did you put cut both wires here on the bottom notation? also did you ever get the pic of the 2000 wheel with wiring color pinouts so we know which color to connect to which color?
Do you have the color code on witch you connected each wire too. I see in the 2000 you have a green org wire but you dont have it on the 2003. I have this same wiring in my 2000 f250 and im putting a 2007 wheel in and cant make the cruise work. Any Help?
