Hello. So, My truck has been sitting parked for a while with 1/4 tank of fuel. Since beginning of winter really. Wont start. Cranks hard, wont start. My guess is fuel but cant hurt to check everything.
How do you check spark without a tester? Stick a screwdriver into the plug wire and hold it near ground? I dont work on vehicles with spark and when I do I have a tester. Autozone sells some confusing one so I passed on it. Ill do it the backyard way.
That should do it. I normally put a phillips in the spark plug boot and hold the shaft of the around 1/4" away from an exhaust manifold bolt. You should be good to go!
Actually, last time I was working on a car and needed to check to see if there was spark I didnt know, and I held the wire and was looking into the boot and told my friend to crank it... Yeah.... Im never going to do that again. Havent worked on anything like that since.
Lol! You know what they say, expierence is the best teacher and that will hold true forever. I hate it when your turning the dizzy from the top to adjust the timing and you get an arc from that into your hand. That's a quick way to throw the timing off by a few degrees. lol.
Before I bought one of those inline spark testers, I just pulled a wire off a spark plug, inserted a good used spark in the end of the wire and held it against the exhaust mainfold. Make sure you don't have any fuel leaks or flammable vapors nearby.
