The price that Abendx gave is mostly on key.
If you do a lot of highway driving, the 3:73's will give you a little more mpg.
3:73 are a stock offered gear will be cheaper and more obtainable that 3:55's
My opinion, not worth the money to go from 4:10 to 3:73's

I'm sure there are some folks out there running larger tires that would love to trade a 3.73 for a 4.10. Maybe you could hook up with someone on this board and trade gears. It would at least save the cost of the parts.

no... these prices are for two axels.....
about 300 in labor per axel and 300 per axel in materials (ring and pinion and install kit). another 150 or so if you need your carrier replaced (which i don't believe he will with a change from 4.10 to 3.73).
some things to consider.... you will lose A LOT of power when you do this and towing will be harder on the engine.
also, i'd not go the route of swaping gears with anyone.... gears break in and if swapped you might have lots of problems. best to put out the cash and go new!

At the rist of sounding like an idiot I will update everyone (which by the way, thank you for your responses and input). The pickup is one that I am buying. The owner "thought" he had 4:10 but after I asked him to verify, he has discovered that it has 3:73's which is what I want. I apologize for wasting everyone's time.
