Hopping Rear End?

OK today on my way to work I was towing my boat as I want to go out as soon as I get off work.

Same boat tow all the time. Same road. Same speed

When I hit 40 MPH today the *** end of my truck started "hopping" for lack of a better word.

It was like when some one is learning to drive a standard and they don't give it enough gas you get that lurching effect? The back end of the truck was going up and down when I looked back like I had hit a big bump or something( Had not) Popped it in neutral slowed down and it stopped I pulled over checked the trailer tires and truck tires every thing was fine. Started driving again when I hit right around 40 it started doing it again so I pulled in to gas station and checked tire pressure on all 8 tire all where right where suppose to be. Had it in 4th gear both times when this happened

I looked under trailer and truck didn't see anything. Was closer to work than home so went to work got up to 40 again no problem drove on highway a few miles up to 55mph no problem

THOUGHTS?

Was it a dirt road and a little bit soft and do you have traction control? I've had that happen to me in the desert. Turned the traction control off and it was fine.

Could you have had minimal tongue weight at the hitch. I.e., the trailer was evenly balanced on its tires, rather than being front heavy?

It has never done this before in the year plus I have been towing it tongue weight has not changed. Have not weighted tongue but I can't lift it up when it is down so at least 300lbs.
Tandem so I did jack it down when I first got it and it did keep going down not balance out.

No paved road yes have traction control but the light on the dash was not flashing.

Are you talking about the infamous 45 mph "hop"? Plenty of comments about it, but I thought most were dually's. If it's that, then not much to do except don't drive 45.
