I know the timing is off on my 78 f150 with a 351m AT, and my emmison sticker is gone of the valve cover, ive heard timing is suppose to be set at 10 degrees and/or 14 degrees, any help is appreciated as to what its suppose to be set at, thanks
10, 12 14, 43. You can set the timing two other ways. Set it by vacuum. When you get the highest vacuum at idle. Or a PITA way. Set it advanced so it "pings" a little then back it down.
Pinging is bad and will burn a hole in the piston eventually, called predetination. But back it down a little and you will have the best advance for power. Mine will ping a little when I first get on it and it runs like a cat with a turpentined a$$.
Thanks for the info its set at 14 right now and was way over 20 when i got the truck, its runs pretty good still have a little skip on highway and wants to diesel when i shut it off sometimes.
